Key takeaways
- Coverage depends on your insurance plan, so please check with your insurer to confirm what they cover. We cannot promise reimbursement.
- Receipts are available for some services, depending on the practitioner. Test Practitioner One provides receipts as a Registered Psychotherapist.
- We do not offer direct billing, so you pay at the time of your session and submit receipts to your insurer yourself.
- Ask your insurer about per-session limits, yearly maximums, and whether a referral is required before you book.
- NeurOptimal is a brain training and wellness service, not a diagnosis, treatment, cure, or prevention of any condition.
The short answer is that coverage depends on your insurance plan, so please check with your insurer to confirm what they cover. We cannot promise that your sessions will be reimbursed. What we can tell you is how receipts work at our clinic, which practitioner provides them, and what to ask your insurer before you book.
Brain training is one of several services we offer at TEST Sample Wellness Clinic in Red Deer. If you are new to the service, you can read what a session involves in our introductory article, or see the full list on our services page.
The short answer about coverage
Insurance coverage for brain training is not guaranteed. Each insurer and each plan sets its own rules about which services and credentials qualify. Some plans cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist, and others do not. The only way to know for certain is to ask your insurer directly.
We describe NeurOptimal as a brain training and wellness service. We do not use it to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Because of that framing, your insurer may treat it differently than they treat counselling or other regulated health services. Ask your insurer how they classify the service and whether that classification affects coverage.
You can read more about our confirmed insurance details on our insurance page.

Receipts and who provides them
Receipts are available for some services, depending on the practitioner. Test Practitioner One provides receipts as a Registered Psychotherapist. Practitioner Two does not provide insurance receipts for their sessions. If you plan to submit a claim, please confirm which practitioner you will see before you book.
A receipt from TEST Sample Wellness Clinic includes the practice name, the date of your session, the fee you paid, and the practitioner's name and designation. You can use that receipt to submit a claim to your insurer yourself. We do not send the receipt on your behalf.

What receipt designation means
The receipt designation is the professional title that appears on your receipt. At our clinic, Test Practitioner One issues receipts as a Registered Psychotherapist. That title tells your insurer which type of provider you saw, and your insurer uses it to decide whether the session qualifies under your plan.
Some plans group providers by designation. A plan that covers a Registered Psychotherapist may not cover a counsellor, and the reverse can also be true. When you call your insurer, mention the exact designation and ask whether it qualifies under your benefits.
Test Practitioner One is regulated by Test College of Therapists. The licence number TEST-0001 is approved for public display. You can read more on their practitioner page.
Direct billing at our clinic
We do not offer direct billing. That means you pay us directly for your session, and then you submit your receipt to your insurer yourself if you plan to seek reimbursement. Some clinics bill insurers on the client's behalf, but that is not a service we provide.
Without direct billing, you pay the full session fee yourself and claim it back from your insurer. We know this adds a step for you, and we provide a clear receipt to make the claim process as simple as possible. You can read more about payment methods in our cost article.
What to ask your insurer
A short phone call to your insurer can save you a surprise later. Here are the questions that tend to matter most when you are checking on coverage for brain training.
- Does my plan cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist?
- Is there a per-session limit or a yearly maximum for this type of service?
- Does the plan require a doctor referral before it will reimburse me?
- How do I submit a receipt, and how long does reimbursement usually take?
- Is brain training classified differently than counselling under my plan?
When you call, have your plan number ready. You can mention the receipt designation and ask whether it qualifies under your benefits. If your insurer needs more detail about the service, you can describe it as brain training or a wellness service.

Good to know
You do not need a referral to book with us, and we do not collect health information through this site. Some insurance plans ask for a referral even though we do not require one, so it is worth checking with your insurer.
Benefits and spending accounts
Many Canadians access coverage through an employer benefits plan, a private health spending account, or a combination of both. Each one works a little differently, and the rules depend on your specific plan.
A benefits plan often lists covered provider types and a yearly maximum. A health spending account lets you apply a set amount toward eligible health costs each year. Ask your insurer or your employer's benefits administrator which type you have and how the limits work.
Some plans require you to pay first and submit a receipt afterward. Others may ask for a referral letter or a specific form. Because these details vary, please check with your insurer before you book so you know what to expect.
Who brain training may suit
Test Practitioner One, who offers brain training at our clinic, works with adults and teens. People come to brain training for many reasons, including a general interest in wellness and a desire to feel more settled in daily life.
We do not use NeurOptimal to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. If you are dealing with a specific health concern, please talk to your doctor or another qualified health professional. Brain training can sit alongside medical care, but it is not a substitute for it.
If you are curious whether brain training might suit you, the best next step is to contact us. We will help you decide where to begin.
What a session is like
A NeurOptimal session runs about 60 minutes. You relax in a comfortable chair while small sensors rest on your head and ears. You listen to music through headphones, and the music pauses briefly when the system detects a shift in your brain activity. You do not need to focus, follow instructions, or try to achieve a particular state.
No referral is needed to book. You can read a fuller description of what happens before, during, and after a session in our introductory article.
Cost and payment
Session fees are not listed on this site because they have not been confirmed for publication. We can share current pricing when you reach out. The best way to get an accurate answer is to send us a note through the contact form or call us at (403) 555-0142.
We accept credit card and e-transfer. Payment happens at the time of your session. Because we do not offer direct billing, you pay us directly and submit your receipt to your insurer yourself if you plan to seek reimbursement.
